Scope and Contents

From the Series:

Papers, documents, and objects from the presidential office of Dr. Harry S. Downs.  The founding president of Clayton Junior College in 1969, who lead the school to a four year institution by becoming Clayton State College in 1995. Collection includes general correspondence files, institutional reports, photos, and of institution implementation and governance of the first 25 years of Clayton State, including the 1967 Clayton County Board of Education and Board of Regents Agreement to found and create the institution.  The collection also includes files documenting the Spivey Foundation activities from creation of the foundation to the completion and foundation management of Clayton State's Spivey Hall.  Documentation on the research, creation, and implementation of academic programs such as the Nursing, Dental Hygiene, School of Technology, Police Science, etc. spanning the first 25 years of Clayton State under the leadership of Dr, Harry S, Downs as president, within his Dr. Downs administrative files.
