Dr. Gordon Baker began his career at Clayton Junior College as a student, and graduated in June of 1973 with an Associate Degree in the Arts. A few years later he started working at Clayton Junior College’s Library on January 9th, 1979. Dr. Baker spent 40 years as an employee and faculty member at Clayton State moving up the ranks from an evening & weekend Librarian in the Clayton Junior College days, on to a Public Services Librarian as the school transitioned to Clayton State College, then on to the Head of Public Services Department as the institution’s name changed to Clayton College & State University, and finally becoming the Director and then Dean of Library as the school became known as Clayton State University. During an oral history interview, conducted by the University Archives Department, Gordon stated that “the happiest moment I had [at Clayton State] was when I was named Director of the Library”.
