Campus Review Publication 1971-2004 Inventory

Scope and Contents

The Campus Review’s first issue was September 23, 1971. The Review was preceded by What’s Going on Here? and CJC Potpourri. The Campus Review started out as a weekly report to the faculty and staff. This continued until December 1988. From January 1999 through December 1999, the Review was published twice a month.. In January 2000, the Campus Review became a monthly publication and remained so until December 2002. The frequency of publication returned to twice a month with the January 17, 2003, edition and continues to be published twice a month to the present. Publication issues only from October 2002 to August 2014 are accesssible electroniclly.

Biographical or Historical Information

When the Campus Review was first published, there were no volume or issue numbers indicated on the newspaper. On June 28, 1974, the volume and issue number were noted on the printed copy. The volume numbers started with Volume VI, accounting for the previous years’ publications. The volume number was indicated with roman numerals. The issue number was indicated with cardinal numbers. This system continued until December 1978. From January 1999 to December 1999, no volume or issue numbers were printed on the publication. In January 2000, the editions of the Campus Review received volume and issue numbers. The numbering started with Volume I, Issue 1 (volume number in roman numerals and the issue in cardinal numbers). With the July 2000 edition, the numbering was changed to account for the previous numbered and unnumbered volumes. The volume number was changed to Volume 32, in cardinal numbers. The issue number was also in cardinal numbers. This numbering system continued through January 14, 2004. Starting January 23, 2004, the volume number remained in cardinal numbers and the issue numbering went to roman numerals.

Abstract

The Campus Review started out as a Faculty and Staff newspaper. The contents centered around people, events and schedules. Items included in this paper were: births, marriages, exam schedules, visitors to campus, special events, calendars, administrative information, fundraising news, and other general news about Clayton. Today’s Campus Review serves the Clayton State Community. The newspaper continues to carry personal news about faculty and staff. The front page now has a list of articles that appear inside the newspaper: Across the Campus, Life’s Transitions, Arts Page, Jobs! Jobs! Jobs!, Alumni/Development, Trivia Time, Sports, and articles specific to the edition.

Arrangement Note

The editions of the Campus Review are filed in order by Volume Number and Date. The collection starts out being organized by academic year. Each academic year begins in July and ends at the end of June. Each academic year was the start of a new volume number. The files are by academic year and volume number. In 1999, the volume and issue numbers did not appear on each edition. In January 2000, the volume numbers started at volume 1. In July of 2000, the volume number is XXXII and the issue number was 7. The volume and issue numbering now is done by calendar year. The files are still in volume and date sequence. There are numerous errors with volume and issue numbers throughout. The folder level inventory notes where there are numbering inconsistencies. From 1971 to 1998, the size and format of the Campus Review varied from issue-to-issue. Those issues that are oversized are noted on the folder level inventory. The oversized issues are filed in one box together. See the Container List below to see the issues filed in the oversized box.
