Scope and Contents

Clayton Junior College first published their Bulletin for years 1969 to 1971. The bulletin is now referred to as the Academic Catalog. This is a publication for students of Clayton State. It serves as a guide to their academic program requirements at the University.

Biographical or Historical Information

With the first issues, the contents included: academic calendar, information about the College, academic programs, admission information, financial information, the campus, campus life, academic information including degree requirements, course descriptions, a college directory and an index. In the 1980s, the contents included: general information, admissions information, financial/ information, academic information, college programs, career programs, financial aid information, special studies programs, course descriptions, student services/activities, community services, college personnel, index, and college facilities. In the 1990s, the contents changed to include: academic calendar, general information, admissions information, financial information, academic information, general degree requirements, degree programs, library information, learning support center, course descriptions, financial aid, student services and activities, office of continuing education, college history, the University System of Georgia, the Clayton State College Foundation, Inc., college personnel, college facilities, and an index. There was public safety information and a telephone guide on the inside back cover. The 2004-2006 edition included these sections: provision of this catalog, table of contents, academic calendar, general information, services for students, admission information, financial information, academic policies, graduation requirements, School of Arts and Science, School of Business, School of Health Sciences, College of Information and Mathematical Sciences, School of Technology, course descriptions, University System of Georgia, university personnel, and a selected index. A Summary of the catalog was published in random years: 1974-1975, 1979-1980, 1980-1981, and 1988-1989. The Summary pages are taken directly from the catalog. It instructs the students that the information included will be updated with the next new catalog. The table of contents of the summary includes: purpose of the college, summary of programs, general information, admissions/academic information, academic calendar, programs of study/instruction, financial information/aid, student services/activities, department of public safety, community services, college facilities/personnel, index, Board of Regents, University System of Georgia, and a college location map.

Chronological Order by academic year.

Arrangement

The academic catalogs are shelved on two shelves in chronological order for each academic year. The bound copies follow the individual copies of the catalog. Two or three copies of each catalog are in the collection. There are additional catalogs available for copying and mailing to former students. These extra copies are kept in the back of the Archives with the supplies. These extra copies are also in chronological order.

Method of Acquisition

There was no provenance to this collection. This collection was created by the Archives. The catalogs were recovered from several unmarked boxes and anonymous donors.

Frequency of Publication

The academic catalogs are published for academic calendar years. Some catalogs may include more than one academic year, as with the first edition 1969-1971 and 2004-2006.

From 1969 until 2007, the Academic Catalog was published and printed so that students could have a physical copy. Since 2007, the Academic Catalog has been published online only. There have no hard copies of the catalog since it has been published online. The Academic Catalogs from 2007 to the present are saved on disks.

Volume and Issue Numbers

The Volume number is assigned in sequence to each year: Volume 1, Volume 2, Volume 3…through to the current volume. There has been only one issue for each year. The Summary has the same volume and issue number as the academic catalog for that same year.

The bound copies of the catalogs were originally kept in the Library. There are 11 bound volumes. Each volume contains more than one year of Academic Catalogs. The date range of the bound collection is 1969-2006.
